The Amazon jungle is currently being enveloped in huge plumes of smoke as fires continue to rage across many different areas of the rainforest. The smoke is even visible from outerspace, which is extremely alarming because it is unnatural to see that kind of environmental degradation on such a large massive scale. The Amazon is home to many living creatures.
More importantly, the Amazon is responsible for giving around twenty percent of all the world’s oxygen needs. With the destruction of the forest, clean air becomes an issue, coupled with the long-standing problem of climate change. If everyone does not act fast to show love and care for the environment, you stand a great chance of losing your only home. Here are some ways how you, as a resident of Mother Earth, can show concern for the environment:
Keep Your Own Neighborhood Clean
The problems that the world is facing are really tough, but the good news is you don’t have to be a millionaire to do your part in saving the planet. Small cumulative baby steps consistently done by everyone can add up. This will eventually have a great and positive impact just as long as you stay committed to the cause.
Start simple by keeping your own neighborhood clean. If you see trash on the ground, toss it in a trash can. Remind everyone about why it is critical to care for the world. If you continue to take the environment for granted, then it will become even more polluted with harmful contaminants and toxins that are detrimental to your health.
A polluted atmosphere will cause respiratory diseases, cancer, asthma, allergies, and other illnesses. Water pollution can lead to the eventual loss of clean potable water. This may result in typhoid, amoeba, and other LBM (loose bowel movement) inducing diseases that disturb the system.
Combat the Green House Effect by Planting More Trees
The Earth is warming with the passing of each day because of the Green House effect. Climate change is real; you can see and feel its detrimental consequences. Shudder at the thought of it not stopping! Thus, make it your mission to help out by planting a tree.
Imagine if every human being plants a seedling, then soon enough, the world will be littered not with trash but with green, lush trees that cool the environment and provide the vital oxygen you need. With billions of humans living in the world, everyone must do their part.
Encourage your community to do tree planting activities. Involve even young children because they, too, are primary stakeholders. It is critical to start these efforts because if everyone continues to be apathetic, there will be nothing left for the future generation.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
The reason why the environment is polluted is people are not responsible when it comes to their trash. Every single day, the whole world generates massive amounts of trash, especially plastics that take a long time to decay. These all fill landfills, and what’s worst is when they find their way to water sources.
To minimize these kinds of scenario, it is critical to survey your things. Reduce where you can, such as minimizing use of plastic bags and using your own eco bag when you go to the grocery. Reuse what still has life left in it. And remember that you must be vigilant in sorting what can be recycled, so dispense of your plastics and aluminum materials properly in the right recylcing bins.
Teach Your Children the Value of Caring of Mother Nature
The earth belongs to the future generation, so you must continue to teach your children to show love, concern, and respect for Mother Nature. Everything begins in the home. This mindset for loving the environment must be inculcated early on.
You must let your children realize why they are stewards of the earth. Sometimes, telling is not enough, but you have to show them how it is done. Join the aforementioned tree planting activities, recycle your stuff, conserve water, and the like. It is vital to always remind kids that to waste, destroy, and abuse natural resources will only lead to the death of the planet. And when the planet dies, all the living creatures in it will also follow suit.
Attempt a More Green Lifestyle
If possible, go for a more green lifestyle that shows your love and care for the environment. Minimize your use of plastic bags and other plastic goods like plastic straws and disposable dinner cutleries. Yes, these disposable items are more convenient because you no longer have to wash them, but they are very harmful for the earth. It is so much easier to wash plates and cutlery after using them.
On top of that, you can now be smart shoppers and buy refillable items for your kitchen and bath care needs. A ton of plastic from commercial goods can be saved if people opt for refilling. Moreover, you can reduce your carbon footprint by choosing to walk or ride the bike whenever it is feasible to do so.
Save and Conserve for the Environment Whenever you Can
Save water by not leaving it running when you brush your teeth. Make it a habit to only put drinking water that you can consume in your glass, so you won’t have to throw the rest away. Avoid taking long excessive showers that waste water.
You can also save on energy by turning off the lights when you leave the room. Do not leave the TV running when no one is watching. Do not leave the refrigerator door open for too long. Decide on what you want before opening it, and then quickly get what you need.
In addition, you can save and conserve paper use. Recycle old newspapers. Reuse unneeded paper as scratch papers to maximize both front and back. Remember, papers come from trees and every little bit of conservation helps.
You have to do your part in helping care for the environment. It is also your duty to inform and educate others around you, especially your love ones. Increasing environmental awareness is critical because it is only when people come together to fight for a greener future that the Earth can truly be saved for future generations to enjoy.
